Greater Washington Chapter 353, MOPH
The Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) is a nonprofit, veterans service organization chartered by Congress exclusively for combat-wounded Veterans who were awarded the Purple Heart Medal.
Greater Washington Chapter 353 was created on February 22, 1982, and named in honor of General and the first U.S. President George Washington. Over the years, it has grown into a large and very active Chapter in the Northern Virginia and greater Washington, DC areas. MOPH Chapter 353 Members represent all branches of the United States Armed Forces and many generations of Veterans – from World War II to Operations Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Iraqi Freedom (OIF). All Chapter 353 Patriots are combat-wounded Veterans and recipients of the Purple Heart Medal.
Greater Washington Unit 353, LAMOPH
The Ladies' Auxiliary, Military Order of the Purple Heart (LAMOPH) is a nonprofit, veterans service organization chartered by Congress exclusively for female lineal descendents of the Purple Heart Medal recipients. Female combat-wounded Veterans are welcome to become members of the Ladies' Auxiliary in addition to or instead of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. In comparison with many other Ladies Auxiliaries, the LAMOPH does not require U.S. citizenship or membership of the sponsoring Purple Heart recipient in the parent organization.
Greater Washington Unit 353 was created on June 29, 2004. It is only two years old and already over 20 Ladies strong. LAMOPH Unit 353 Members are Mothers, Wives, Sisters, Daughters, Granddaughters, and Widows of Veterans wounded in combat in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Unit 353 Ladies live in many parts of the United States. They share helpful information, support, compassion, and care with our brave military, all Veterans, and their families in California, District of Columbia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, Virginia, and in transit.
