Freedom Team Salute

Operation "Welcome Home" Program

Operation "Welcome Home" Program is a team effort of Greater Washington Unit 353 of the Ladies' Auxiliary, Military Order of the Purple Heart (LAMOPH) and Greater Washington Chapter 353 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH). It started in April 2004 and was prompted, in part, by a phone call from the MOPH Past National Commander Al Silvano when he asked if Ladies and Patriots could visit a new Purple Heart recipient recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC.

Many military service members wounded or injured in the Operations Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Enduring Freedom (OEF) return to the United States for medical treatment and rehabilitation. We meet them at least three times per week at all hours of the day and night at Malcolm Grow Medical Center at Andrews Air Force Base (AFB) in Maryland. We also visit and support OIF/OEF patients at recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) in Washington, DC, National Naval Medical Center (NNMC) in Bethesda, Maryland, and VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Washington, DC.

Whenever we meet or visit our wounded and injured OIF/OEF warriors, we welcome them home and say "thank you" on behalf of all grateful Americans. We also share information about benefits and assistance available to them and their families from various sources.

As of December 31, 2006, we have greeted and provided immediate and/or follow-up assistance to over 16,640 Active Duty, Reserve, and National Guard military service members as well as their immediate families. Our wounded and injured OIF/OEF troops and their loved ones can count on our moral support, timely advice, and practical assistance until everybody comes home and completely adjusts to non-combat life. We would not been able to do so much without the dedicated and continuing support from our friends and partners. Thank you!

Our wounded and injured OIF/OEF warriors always need some basic but essential supplies. Some of them return to the United States with nothing more than hospital clothes or military uniform they wear. Please join our Operation "Welcome Home" team and support our troops. Even one urgently needed item or just $10 does make a big difference.
